Package Runs but not by Agent Job Author Topic RicherR Starting Member 2 Posts Posted - 2014-09-10: 07:25:57 I have 2 packages each one loading a file into SQL. Both packages run when called directly. Both have SQL Agent Jobs set up running under exactly the same creator and 'Run as' user on the step. The files for both jobs are loaded from exactly the same location. However one job runs and the other fails with the message 'Connection manager 'TempLoad1' Description: The file name property is not valid.
When a file's name contains characters that are not valid XML characters, and you are using either the Horizon Workspace Client for Windows or the Horizon Workspace Client for Mac, the file fails to sync with the server. The user sees a message about having an incompatible server.
The file name is a device or contains invalid characters.' The package that works references an xls file (called VALUATIONSCurr.xls) and the package that fails references a csv file (called TempLoad.csv)Both packages build the file path and name using configuration variables (stored in the SQL table) in a script taskOn the failing package I have added another SQL task that takes the file name that has been built and inserts a record into a table showing the value. This step works and the value is as it should be (when I copy the value into explorer the file opens correctly ahmeds08 Aged Yak Warrior 737 Posts Posted - 2014-09-11: 08:46:45 are you able to preview the data in ssis connection manager for TempLoad.csv. And also check if the service account running the package has access permission to the directory containing the csv file.Javeed Ahmed RicherR Starting Member 2 Posts Posted - 2014-09-11: 09:24:40 The package runs fine in BIDS (Visual Studio) and you can see all the data.
The package runs fine when called directly from SSIS. It is only when the package is called from a Job.The Job step is run under a proxy account. The file is actually created by a Script Task in the SAME package. The file definately closed. The Script Task (that runs before the Data Transfer Task) opens and reads from an original file, creates the new file and then moves the original file to another location. All these actions complete fine which proves the proxy does have permission to this location. It is only when the Job tries to run the Data Transfer Task that the package falls over.
Invalid Filename The name specified for at least one of the files in the archive is not a valid Windows filename. It may include characters that are not allowed in Windows filenames, it may be too long, or it may contain a name that is reserved for a system device such as the printer. WinZip ® will not be able to extract the file using the name as it is specified in the archive. WinZip does not list files with invalid names in the main window because it cannot predict what will happen if you attempt to extract the file: the result depends on the filename, the archive format (Zip, LZH, etc.), and other factors. Therefore if you were to attempt to (for example) view the file, WinZip would not know the name under which the file had been stored and could not successfully open the extracted file or delete it after viewing. Although WinZip will not automatically extract the file for operations such as viewing, you may be able to extract it manually.

Just be aware that the extraction might not be successful and that, if it is, the filename on disk will probably not be the same as the filename specified in the archive. With Windows 8, Windows 7, or Windows Vista; either click the Unzip to drop down arrow in the Actions pane or choose Unzip to My PC or Cloud on the 1-click Unzip drop down menu in the Unzip/Share tab. To try this in Windows XP, simply extract from the archive using the, making sure that you choose All files/folders in archive in the Files area.

Note: If no files display in the WinZip window, because all of them have invalid file names, you will have to add a file to the Zip file before trying to extract files.
