Playing the videos on LG BD550 Blu-ray player is a cool idea, you just need to save the videos on USB port and inert the USB to LG BD550, then you can play the videos on LG BD550 with USB port. Recently, some LG BD550 users meet this issue: Trouble: When I am using a WD1TB USB External Hard Drive that connects to the USB port to play.avi and.mkv files. However certain 1080p mkv files don't play while others do. On the ones that wont play I get a message saying 'this movie may not play properly', however it plays fine on my laptop.
I've done a bit of reading about it and have remuxed it to disable header removal compression for audio and video tracks by default.
Hi guys, Got a BD550 today and hoped to enjoy Netcast, but as stated above, it appears not to be part of this piece of equipment, although the box says it is. Tried to do a firmware update over the Net, but that failed. It keeps moaning about the network connection not being OK, although checking it on the BD550 itself reveals it IS ok. Then used the method described above to install firmware from USB. That seems to be working, although the process is very unclear.
Not a clue if it has done something and when it is finished. After restarting itself it again finds the update on the USB stick and you can repeat this 'game' for ever.
Result, though, is still the same: no Netcast. Are there anymore options except switching the player for one that has Netcast really built in instead of just SAYING it has. Hi There, I just got BD 550, i connected it with internet cable from wifi modem. And then connected blue ray player with HDMI cable. When i start player i dont see any netcase menu. In setup It says connection to internet successful, i can see IPs are assinged as well. But there is no Netcast menu on home screen.
As soon as i got connected with internet i got message update avilable. Which means internet is working fine. When i click update first it failed at 55%, second time it failed at 99%, 3rd time it failed at 22%, foruth time finally it completed 100%, but still there is no netcast menu.
I spoke to LG ireland helpdesk but they say that non of european Blue ray player has this option which is very sad. I'm not sure why? Is there any simple way to enable netcast? Thanks in advance, mubi. Guys on the South African LG site the BD550 is listed as discontinued.

Maybe because it is so like the BD560 technically -which looks different, has a flap covering the USB socket and is not rounded at the front edges. I'm sure if you load the firmware for the BD560 it will do the trick. Off the net and on to a USB drive.
If anyone has tried pse confirm if this is so. For the Netflcast/Netflix, this is so far only available in the US. Unless you can get yourself a US billing address and email a/c???
